I am delighted to welcome Katy Cannon to Bookbabblers today, as part of the Love, Lies and Lemon Pies blog tour. Here is our interview with Katy…
Please tell us a little about yourself
I was born in the United Arab Emirates, grew up in Wales and now live in Hertfordshire with my husband and five year old daughter. The only job in the world I ever wanted was to write stories, and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to do that!
Please tell us about the Pooch Parlour series?
Pooch Parlour is where all the celebrities take their dogs to be pampered, groomed, dressed and looked after. The books tell the story of nine year old Abi and her pet bichon frise, Lulu, when they get to go help out at Pooch Parlour for the summer. Over the course of the books Abi and Lulu get to visit TV studios, film sets, meet famous actresses, take part in fashion shows and even help out at a celebrity wedding – but the best part for Abi is that she gets to make lots of new doggy friends, and learn how to take care of and train them. They also get into quite a few scrapes together – but always manage to put everything right in the end.
You have also written Love, Lies and Lemon Pies for a slightly older reader. How did you find writing for two different age groups?
I think that, for me, it is less about writing for different readers, and more just writing characters of different ages. Lottie in Love, Lies and Lemon Pies is a very different girl to Abi anyway, and being seven years older means she’s in a different place in her life too. I like to concentrate on writing about the lives my characters are living, and the people the are. The rest just sort of follows!
Can you tell us what you’re working on now?
I have just handed in the companion novel to Love, Lies and Lemon Pies, which is called Secrets, Schemes and Sewing Machines, so I’ll be working on edits and the craft projects for that one for a while. I’m also just about to start writing the fourth Pooch Parlour book, Wedding Tails, which I’m really looking forward to as I know it’s going to be great fun!
What do you like to do outside of writing?
Oh, all sorts of things, even if I’m always thinking about ways to work the things I see, do and experience into a book! I particularly love reading, baking, crafts, visiting the seaside, history, museums and castles, spending lots of time with my family, and cuddling up on the sofa with my daughter for movie night.
Love, Lies and Lemon Pies is a fantastic book that I read in one sitting. I also loved the addition of recipes at the beginning of each chapter and being a keen baker, I couldn’t resist trying some out.
