Review – Madame Pamplemousse and the Time-Travelling Cafe

Amber has been reading about Madame Pamplemousse’s latest adventures, review copy courtesy of Bloomsbury books. This is the sequel to Madame Pamplemousse and Her Incredible Edibles.

Madame Pamplemousse and the Time-Travelling Cafe – Rupert Kingfisher

In the city of Paris, there is a cafe whose coffee machine conceals a great secret…

When an evil new government threatens to destroy Paris, Madeline’s friend, Madame Pamplemousse, mysteriously disappears. For her own safety, Madeline is guided to a cafe with a gold-and-green striped awning – the Cafe of Lost Time. The cafe is owned by Monsieur Moutarde, who has made the most remarkable discovery. He has invented a time-travel machine, cunningly disguised as an espresso-coffee maker…

Soon Madeline, Madame Pamplemousse and her cat, Camembert, are on the run through time to capture the drool of a Tyrannosaurus rex and a tear from a Sphinx – vital ingredients for a tonic that will revive the ailing spirit of Paris.

A quick, fun, adventurous read, Madame Pamplemousse and the Time-Travelling Cafe keeps you on the edge of your seat. It’s got everything a good story needs! I’ve never read anything by Rupert Kingfisher before, but after reading this amazing story I think I’ll be reading more of his books.

My favourite character is Madame Pamplemousse. I think her name is funny, because it’s French – in English it translates to Ms. Grapefruit. She’s a cool character….I think it’s nice how she kind of looks after Madeline.

This whole story was amazing! Especially the end, there’s a very surprising twist near the end. I give this book a rating of 5/5 – I absolutely loved it. A must-read for anyone who loves surprise and adventure!
