Review of Florentine and Pig Have a Very Lovely Picnic by Eva Katzler

Bookbabbler Wendy has reviewed Florentine and Pig Have a Very Lovely Picnic for us…

This is a story about two best friends Florentine and Pig, Florentine is clever and organised and Pig is small but adventurous. One day as it is warm they decide to have a picnic and they begin to plan and organise their adventure, including climbing a tree to pick apples and designing a picnic menu. Once everything is planned they make a great team in the kitchen – Florentine baked and caked and mixed and whipped and Pig whisked and wiggled and stirred and sliced! And when everything was ready they had a lovely picnic on a blanket under the apple tree.

The illustrations are lovely and really show the joy of getting messy and creative, with a lovely ending picture of pig fast asleep with jam and apple on his nose.

This is a simple story of a picnic but what raises it above other books is that all the recipes are included at the back of the book and we have already made Rainbow Sprinkle Cookies, Cheddar Cheese and Pumpkin Seed Bites and Green Pea Picnic-time Tarts all of which were delicious and easy to make and of course we had to eat them on our very own picnic.

There is also a Florentine and Pig website and a facebook page which contains other recipes and craft ideas.

Thanks Wendy and thank you to Bloomsbury for sending us a copy to review.
